liztaylor3 I know it's only Thursday, but we need to take an early afternoon break to celebrate a few small victories around here. 1. We seeded our last lettuce planting in the greenhouse today. We are officially done with greenhouse work for the season! 2.  My corn fritters were the recipe of the day on Epicurious.com. earlier this week. I'm so proud. Check it out here. 3. Taylor and I have officially broken even with the investment that we put into our first year owning our own farm. We spent more money than we anticipated getting Tumbleweed Farm up and running. However, we are finally going to make a profit this first year. We are more surprised than anyone! The future is looking very bright. 4. The flea beetles have FINALLY left our kale alone. It is stronger and more beautiful than ever. It is making a quick comeback at the farmers market and restaurants around town! mekale! The universe is on our side at the moment and we wanted to clink glasses and celebrate just in case things decide to go south at any time. (There is no guarantee when it comes to farming!) liztaylor2 These Liz Taylor cocktails have a little bit of a back story. When I was farming back east I would fly to Portland a few times a year to visit my family (it was usually the dead of winter when farm work was done). My sister and I would meet up at our favorite hotel bar The Driftwood Room at Hotel DeLuxe and catch up over a few Liz Taylor cocktails.  What I loved most about the Driftwood Bar was that it truly felt like an old classic hotel bar. It was really dark and the atmosphere was extremely cozy. The highlight for us (besides catching up with each other) was the cocktails. liztaylor1 Even though I only live an hour from my sister now, we still make it a point to meet at the Driftwood Room and catch up over our favorite "girly" cocktail.  And let me tell you, when you spend your days in the dirt there is nothing on earth more special than dressing up and drinking fancy cocktails with your sister. I love it! My sister surprised me on my birthday by whipping up her own version of the Liz Taylor. They are a cinch to make and are absolutely delicious. The only tricky part is that you need to find a liquor store that carries Creme De Violette which is a violet liqueur. Most specialty liquor stores will have it, if not you may need to order it. It is worth it though! These cocktails have a nice touch of sweetness that doesn't overpower the champagne. They are absolutely perfect and man friendly too. Taylor was surprised by how much he enjoyed his. It's a winner for everyone. Grab your sister, husband, best friend, mom, dad, cat or dog and catch up over this lovely drink. Cheers!
